Caloundra Camera Group - History
OUR AIM:- “To encourage the development of all members’ photographic skills and knowledge that
they, and others, may achieve and share greater enjoyment from the art of photography.”
Our inaugural meeting was at the Presbyterian Hall in Omrah Ave Caloundra in January 1997.
On the appointed evening, 24 persons, ranging in age from 82 years to 15 years came along. There
was a broad variety of experience (and interest) amongst us. Some twenty-one people of those
present signed on as founding members.
July 1998 saw us become an incorporated body, with the official name change to Caloundra Camera
Group Inc.
In 1999 our meetings moved to the Art Block at Caloundra State High School, which gave us a more
suitable venue, with about 40 members.
From 1999 to 2003 we undertook the stewardship of the Photographic Section of the Maleny Show
In May 2002 we presented a joint exhibition entitled The Pen & The Lens at the Caloundra Regional
Art Gallery, in conjunction with the Poetry & Prose Society, with 50 framed images.
June 2003 saw us move to the AFL Clubhouse at North Street Caloundra, as we had outgrown the
space available at CSHS.
June 2004 we hosted the PSQ Convention using the facilities at the University of the Sunshine Coast
Late in 2007 we were fortunate enough to receive sponsorship from Caloundra RSL and moved to our
meeting venue to the RSL with the first meeting held at Caloundra RSL in January 2008.
Our partnership with the Caloundra RSL continued until the end of 2012, when we relocated to the Caloundra District Indoor Bowling Association premises in Golden Beach.
In 2010 we exhibited at the Caloundra Regional Art Gallery as part of a
joint work illustrating the cultural & historical diversity of our local community. This exhibition included
25 printed images as well as a continuous slideshow of 124 images.
